How important is your website ?

Your website gives a virtual tour to your business ... isn't it ? My recent experience was such ......

I was recently called for my consultancy services to a upcoming organization . When I received the call I little new about this organization so I decided to check their website. According to MD of this organization they had been working for over 20 years. As narrated to me they had great ambition . They were planning PAN India kind of infrastructure and blah blah blah . With that kind of ambition I had little expected that their website would give little or no information which freaked me out. But still I dragged myself to meet them on their narration about their organization and ambitions.

Well their infrastructure was as poor as their website which reflected their image. During my meeting with the MD he even mentioned that they had failed earlier in their venture some 15 years back …. Everything about them was negative but then I am well known for working with organizations as such and help them in their development but one needs funds for any kind of development. They are a part of service industry and work out of their 1000 sq.ft. office and hence website was a major drawback though according to them they were doing very well with financial problems to some extent which was stopping them from renovating and shifting into a better office….. Their website was at first instance giving a negative impression due to which people they wanted to hire were walking in with preconceived opinion and were rejecting their offer even the financers were reluctant to fund their projects . The most important thing was revamping at every end and to start with I suggested the website development which required little innovation.
What should your website contain ?

Your website tells your story and is your reflection. Develop web content with relevant textual and visuals. So , design wisely ..... select visuals , write , rewrite content .....

It is essential to have an excellent content and should be designed wisely . A website gives the virtual tour to your business and the services . Your home page decides whether one should go any further or not in a way it makes or breaks your business no matter how big or small your business is or however brilliant the design maybe. The contents on your homepage on a whole holds your future so remember the content on your first page your home page should entice your visitors  and engage them in a positive way to get you business . The content on your homepage should give the feel ‘yes you are on the right page.’
  • Streamline your webpage unless you want your visitor to get lost and decide not to visit again neither your page nor to go for the services or products you are offering. The keywords used to further links should be clear and self explanatory.
  • Interface design ing or positioning of the various elements should be done in simple and artistic way. The navigation should be easier and spontaneous  unless you are designing it for strictly computer geeks!
  •  Keep up with the consistency of style or your visitor will lose interest if he has to hunt for topics after every page and has to hunt even to go back from where he has to start his hunt again.
  • Visuals should be used as they eye catching but there should be a logic in the use. If you are using a visual for a keyword which links you to a separate page make sure it is descriptive and informative enough for your visitor to move the cursor to it and not to close.
  • Readability plays a vital role . Make sure your text is informative but not boring. Divide your content into sentences and paragraphs when and where required.
  • Prelaunch or test launch your website and collect feedback . Improvise on the feedback collected. You might be genius but it’s for your customers or clients.
